Azul extends Intelligence Cloud to Oracle JDK & all OpenJDK JVMs – ChannelLife Australia

Azul has announced the extension of its Intelligence Cloud to Oracle JDK and all OpenJDK-based JVMs from any vendor or distribution. The cloud analytics solution utilises production Java runtime data to accelerate developer productivity.”

Amid increased pressure on businesses to speed up application innovation cycles, bolster development resources and ensure application security, Azul’s Intelligence Cloud has introduced two services. These offer assistance for Java applications in production. The services include the Azul Vulnerability Detection, designed to eliminate false positives by identifying and prioritising security vulnerabilities, and Code Inventory, aimed at identifying unused and dead code by detailing the custom and third-party code in operation.

Ed Tybursky, managing partner at Remend, an independent Oracle advisory firm, commented, “The ability to efficiently triage vulnerable code and identify unused code for removal from telemetry across an entire Java estate, regardless of JDK distribution or vendor, is a crucial capability that enables DevOps teams to effectively focus their time and attention.”

Jevin Jensen, IDC research vice president of Intelligent CloudOps, also emphasised the significance of a solution that can minimise false positives in vulnerability scanning. He said, “This enables DevOps, SRE and CloudOps teams to focus on the actual Common Vulnerability and Exposures (CVEs) that are executed by production applications. By avoiding code paths that are never executed, teams can move faster and reduce remediation costs.”

Many organisations face the double hurdle of modernising their applications for a cloud-native AI-powered world while working with challenging legacy codebases. The latter can obstruct innovation and limit the potential of DevOps teams. The problem is accelerated by teams adding features but not retiring old code, which increases the risk of unexpected behaviour or exposure to vulnerabilities.

A user of the Azul Intelligence Cloud from a leading fintech trading firm stated, “With Code Inventory, we identified large portions of unused code, archived it, and now spend our time working on the important parts. This has significantly sped up our development cycles.”

The Azul Intelligence Cloud promises crucial advantages, with support for any JDK distribution, including those from Azul, Oracle, Amazon, Eclipse, Microsoft, Red Hat, and others. This assistance extends to Java application deployments that typically feature a diverse mix of JVMs across various Java vendors, platforms, and versions, which generates complexity for DevOps teams.

James Yang, vice president of sales at Cloud Creek, an Azul channel partner, noted, “Azul’s Intelligence Cloud solution takes all this pain away, completely removing the false positives and allowing our customers to quickly and effectively remediate the vulnerabilities that matter.”

Scott Sellers, co-founder and CEO of Azul, highlighted the pressure on businesses to innovate, launch quickly and enhance application security while dealing with resource constraints. He stated, “Azul Intelligence Cloud is a game-changer. Using the information already inside JVMs running in production, Intelligence Cloud provides unprecedented precision and the intelligence needed to solve two significant DevOps challenges – alert fatigue from an intractable vulnerability false positive backlog and technical debt from maintaining unused code.”
