Santo Domingo.- The executive director of the Airport Department (DA) and the commander general of the National Army (ERD) have agreed to collaborate on strengthening national security through the construction and renovation of helipads across various facilities throughout the Dominican Republic.

This initiative is part of the National Heliport Network project developed by the DA, aiming to enhance prevention, mitigation, and response capabilities for risk management during emergencies caused by natural disasters or other events that may impact Dominican airports and heliports.

The collaboration was formalized through the Interinstitutional Framework Agreement for Collaboration and Support, signed by Víctor Pichardo, executive director of the DA, and Major General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre.

Pichardo emphasized that as the governing body of airports, heliports, and private airports, this agreement is crucial not only for emergency response but also as part of the nation’s defense and security strategy implemented by the Army across the country.

Major General Fernández Onofre expressed gratitude to the DA, highlighting that the support provided will significantly strengthen the military institution, particularly in areas where it is most needed.

The agreement, signed at the DA’s headquarters, also aims to develop improvement programs in strategic areas and optimize the human resources of both institutions, enhancing operational capacity through joint activities.
