Africa Cloud & Security Roadshow Launches In Tanzania – CIO Africa

Industry leaders, policymakers, and cloud and cybersecurity professionals from diverse industries recently converged in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, for the Africa Cloud & Security Roadshow. Held at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel in the city, the event focused on the dynamic world of cloud computing and cybersecurity.

Organised for the first time in Tanzania by dx5, Africa’s technology driver, and powered by BUI East Africa, an award-winning global technology consultancy and managed services provider specialising in cloud, security and networking solutions, the roadshow is a series of events dedicated to advancing the technological landscape of East Africa. The event featured keynotes and sessions led by experts from across the region, offering deep insights into the latest technology trends and challenges.

Among the major topics of discussion were Risk Management in Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning in Cloud Computing, Navigating Cloud Migration, The Future of Cybersecurity, Cloud Infrastructure and Management, and Cybersecurity Leadership. These topics were tackled by various thought leaders and experts from different corners of the continent.

The speakers lined up for the event included Eng. Jumanne Ally, Telecom and ICT Consultant at DIT Co. Ltd; Gregory Almeida, Managing Director at Swordfish Security Consultants Ltd; Joel Kazoba, Head of Cybersecurity at Vodacom Tanzania; Peter Kisa, Cybersecurity and Technology Audit Consultant; Esther Lugoe Mengi, CEO of Serensic Africa; Eng. Gaspari Shiliba, Head of Cybersecurity at UBX Tanzania Ltd; and Kelvin Ngware (Technical Consultant) and Hasmukh Chudasama (General Manager: East Africa) from BUI East Africa.

Chudasama delivered a keynote address titled “You’ve been hacked – what next? Your breach response plan”. In his session, Chudasama outlined the immediate actions to take after a security incident, including incident containment, investigation, and communication strategies. Attendees learned how to minimise damage and swiftly restore operations after a breach.

A keynote panel discussed ways organisations can leverage AI for cloud intelligence. BUI East Africa’s Chudasama and Ngware and Jean-Marie C. Bwemo, Operations Manager at Smart Lab, highlighted how organisations can use cloud intelligence to analyse vast amounts of data, allowing them to detect and neutralise AI-powered cyber threats more effectively.

Ngware also delivered a presentation showcasing ways that organisations can leverage tools like Microsoft Copilot to boost workplace efficiency. He demonstrated the features of Microsoft Copilot and provided real-world examples of how it can streamline tasks across various workflows.

Overall, organisations were advised to adopt a proactive and multi-layered approach to cybersecurity. Experts emphasised that companies must continuously assess and update their security strategies to stay ahead of emerging threats and protect sensitive data from cybercriminals.

The Africa Cloud & Security Roadshow has so far been successfully launched in Tanzania and Uganda. The final edition of this roadshow will be held in Ethiopia on May 30, 2024, at the Radisson Blu hotel in Addis Ababa.
