City to tighten its network security – Wetumpka Herald

The City of Wetumpka is keeping up with security threats to its networks.

At the Wetumpka City Council meeting Monday, it had a first reading of a resolution seeking to purchase a new firewall for the City Administration Building at a cost of $7,313.44.

“The current one is at the end of its life,” city IT director Jim McGehee told the council. “This one will have the city admin building, the library and the new fire department running through it.”

The council traditionally has expenditures on two meeting agendas before taking the matter up for vote.

At the last meeting the council heard of a need for the city to spend $12,620 to provide matching funds for a grant to restore the windows at the Elmore County Museum. At Monday’s meeting it approved the spending of the money.

The council also voted to allow the Elmore County Extension Office to host its annual Farm City Festival at the Farmers Market beginning at 4 p.m. on Oct. 1. It has traditionally been held at the extension office.

“It has primarily been a children’s event,” county extension coordinator Katrina Mitchell said. “We are hoping the time change and location change will make it more of a community event.”
