Based on the latest report from Fortinet, a cybersecurity solutions provider, approximately 78% of organizations are embracing hybrid and multi-cloud approaches. Among these, 43% adopt a hybrid model combining cloud and on-premises infrastructure, while 35% pursue a multi-cloud strategy.
However, security emerges as a paramount concern, with 96% of organizations expressing moderate to extreme apprehension about cloud security. Also, 61% anticipate a rise in their cloud security budget over the next year to address evolving threats, particularly those stemming from AI technologies.
Fortinet’s 2024 Cloud Security Report is based on a survey of 927 cybersecurity professionals worldwide.
Multicloud adoption figures show a modest increase from previous years, reflecting a maturing cloud market where growth has stabilized. Fortinet attributes this shift to a better understanding of cloud benefits and the equilibrium of cloud computing hype.
“At this point, the hype appears to have found its equilibrium, and the benefits of cloud computing are well understood,” Fortinet said in a media release. “Organizations with IT needs that can benefit from cloud flexibility and agility or that require services unique to cloud environments are able to move forward with their projects.”
Security concerns
However, challenges persist, especially in implementing consistent multi-cloud security. Security and compliance issues top the list of concerns (59%), followed by technical obstacles (52%) and resource limitations (49%). The scarcity of cloud security expertise exacerbates these challenges, with 93% of respondents expressing worry about the industry-wide skills shortage.
Despite these obstacles, there is a consensus (95%) that a unified cloud security platform with a single dashboard could significantly enhance data protection across diverse cloud environments. Such integration offers streamlined management, automation, and improved visibility, essential for mitigating security risks in complex hybrid and multi-cloud landscapes.
Fortinet’s report underscores the evolving landscape of cloud security, where organizations prioritize comprehensive strategies to safeguard their digital assets amid advancing cyber threats and resource constraints.
